The Southern Arizona DUI Task Force completed its final night of the "Holiday Deployment" just 2 days ago. The deployment runs from the weekend after Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. The task force is made up of several law enforcement agencies from around Southern Arizona.
The Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety plays a major role in helping fund task force, like the one here in Southern Arizona. Statewide they reported almost 44 hundred drivers were arrested for a DUI. More than 1,000 were for an extreme DUI, that's a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher. This year there was a major increase in DUI drug arrests, from 590 in 2010 to 934 this year.
In Southern Arizona there was also an increase in DUI drug arrests. From 24 in 2011 to 38 this year. More than 450 people were arrested for a DUI during the "Holiday Deployment." When it came to an extreme DUI there was a decrease. From 142 in 2011 to 127 this year.
The Southern Arizona DUI Task Force wants to remind drivers not to drive impaired.
