TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Filing
a tax return now could make getting health insurance a lot easier in October.
After
health care reform, everyone will have to have health insurance. And the
state must have a health insurance exchange by the end of the year.
For
those who have an income just above the federal poverty level, they might not
have filed tax returns in the past. But now they'll want to do so this
year because that will show their eligibility for a health insurance subsidy.
"They
normally don't file a tax return. But that single guy, let's say he's 20
years old, and yeah, he's going to have to start getting health insurance and
so filing a tax return, even though he doesn't have to file a tax return is
going to help him get that subsidy to help him pay for health insurance," said
David Tinny, an H&R Block enrolled agent.
The
up to the last minute fiscal cliff negotiations should not affect the W-2 sent
out by employers for this year's taxes.
