TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
All day today a series of activities are happening across Tucson, as a tribute to victims of the mass shooting that happened nearly two years ago.
Organizers are hoping to celebrate community with ‘The Beyond Event', which is really a series of events, all outdoor activities around the Tucson area.
The main event however will be at Armory Park, on Sixth Avenue where signs are already lining the street.
At the park visitors will see everything from guided walks through downtown, to exercise classes for all ages. This isn't limited to just the downtown area though, in surrounding areas like Catalina State Park and Sabino Canyon there will be hikes, bike rides and trail rides.
Last year a total of about 5,000 people came out to the whole host events, organizers expect to see more this year.
The goal is to commemorate the victims of the shooting almost two years ago, but also to bring the community together again by getting outdoors and engaging in healthy activity.
Beyond was created by the family of Gabe Zimmerman, the Congressional staffer who was fatally shot on January 8.
Organizers say the goal is simple – spend more time with the people you love.
