Miss Maricopa County wins Miss Arizona USA pageant

Miss Maricopa County Rachel Kasang was crowned Miss Arizona USA on Sunday night in the annual pageant at the Mesa Civic Center.

University of Arizona graduate Caitie Wilenchik, 22, from Paradise Valley, was runner-up for the second consecutive year. She was second to Erika Frantzve in 2012.

Kasang, 19, attended Cactus High School in Glendale and works as a model for the Ford/Robert Black Modeling Agency in Scottsdale. She advances to the Miss USA pageant in June.

Others in the top five were second runner-up Nicole Smith (Miss Phoenix), third runner-up Arlin Guadian (Miss West Valley) and fourth runner-up Ashley Stainton (Miss Foothills).

Two other contestants from Tucson, Miss Pima County Ariel Cuevas and Miss Southern Arizona Krystin Sorich, made the top 15.

Cuevas, 20, is a 2010 Cienega High graduate who attended Pima Community College.

Sorich, 23, graduated from the UA in broadcasting last year and Marana Mountain View High School in 2008.

Five other contestants from Southern Arizona were in the field of 38 contestants: Anna Maldonado Henderson (Miss Tucson), Ameryssa Leon (Miss North Tucson), Natalie Romo (Miss Santa Cruz County), Carmen DeLeon (Miss Sierra Vista) and Tajonna Lawler (Miss Greater Scottsdale).

Francine Beck, the only contestant from Southern Arizona in the Miss Arizona Teen USA competition, made the top 15.

There were 28 contestants in the teen competition, won by Miss Phoenix Olivia Argue. Miss Anthem Lexe Richardson was runner-up.
