TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is right around the corner and with Streetcar construction in full swing, some worry it may put a damper on this year's turnout.
It's not the emeralds or pearl that may shine potential shoppers away from this year's show, but the orange diamonds surrounding the Tucson Convention Center.
"I see it being hectic if you get a lot of traffic in here. Y yeah, there's going to be a lot of problems," said St. David resident, Tim Evicci.
The four day Tucson Gem and Mineral Show starts on February 14th and goes through the 17th. It's unclear which streets will be closed at that time.
But, much of the downtown area has had some street closures since the beginning of the Streetcar construction.
Organizer Gloria Quigg remains optimistic about this year's turnout. "Construction is always a turnoff for people driving downtown but in the long run I don't think it's going to impact us very much."
She says last year they had 19 thousand people come from all over the world. That's not including the 2-week Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase happening around town. Quigg is hoping to match that same number this year.
Some people we spoke with today say this construction wont stop them from attending.
