Newest Research Funded by The Charles E. Holman Foundation Reveals Spirochetes in MD Tissues

The newest research on the mysterious human illness known as Morgellons disease published in the January 2013 online journal Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology has revealed surprising results.
Previous work by veterinary microbiologist Marianne J. Middelveen from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and internist Raphael B. Stricker from San Francisco, CA, explored the chemical and physical properties of the mysterious filaments / fibers found in the skin of MD patients. The present study, Characterization and evolution of dermal filaments from patients with Morgellons disease (http://www.dovepress.com/characterization-and-evolution-of-dermal-filaments-from-patients-with--peer-reviewed-article-CCID), investigated the immunohistochemical and electron microscopic aspects of MD. An exciting discovery in MD epithelial tissue was the presence of spiral or curved structures consistent in size and shape with spirochetes. Further examination with specific staining techniques is underway to confirm the spirochetal presence. The genetic identification of MD spirochetes remains to be determined.
“This evidence is very provocative and gives direct credibility to an infectious etiology”, said internist/dermatologist Peter J. Mayne of Laurieton, NSW, Australia, who is coauthor of the study. The other coauthor is pathologist Douglas G. Kahn of Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, CA.
“Recognizing Morgellons as an emerging infectious disease is paramount” said Dr. Stricker. “It is imperative that responsible action be taken by the medical and scientific communities to meet the very real challenges that MD has created.”
