TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson police are asking for help identifying the suspect in an assault and armed robbery at an east-side convenience store on Sunday.

The robbery happened at the Quickmart at 5860 E. 22nd Street at about 11:19 p.m.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 30-35 years old, 5'9" tall, 160-180 pounds, with red facial hair. He was wearing a light blue cap, black leather jacket and blue jeans.

According to a news release, the suspect displayed a gun and threatened the store clerk as he demanded money, the release said.

He left with an undisclosed amount of money. A male customer followed the suspect into in the parking lot and confronted him, which is when police say the suspect struck him in the arm with a baseball bat that he had concealed under his jacket.

Later, at about 2 a.m., the clerk reported to police that the suspect returned and assaulted him with the bat as he took out some trash. The suspect said the assault was in retaliation for the clerk calling the police, the release said.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
