Funeral services set for ex-Douglas mayor Rodriguez

DOUGLAS, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The funeral mass for former Douglas Mayor Albert F. Rodriguez will be Monday in Scottsdale.

Rodriguez, who served as mayor 1978-1980, died at his Scottsdale home Monday, his family said. He was 85.

Rodriguez served in Vietnam for five years (1964-1969). He earned a Purple Heart, having been wounded twice, and rose to the rank of colonel.

Later in his career, Rodriguez served as a defense attaché to El Salvador. 

A visitation will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Sunday at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. in Scottsdale, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale, with burial at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix.

Rodriguez is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita, his sons Albert, Daniel, Michael (deceased), David, Andy and John, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held this Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.; rosary will be held at 7 p.m. at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road in Scottsdale.
