TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Police were searching Sunday night for a missing elderly couple who drove to Tucson on Friday night from Tempe.

John Charles Stegmeier, 89, and Marie Montana Stegmeier, 90, have a daughter living in the Tucson area.

She was not expecting them, and other family members were unaware they were coming to Tucson, Sgt. Maria Hawke told Tucson News Now. They telephoned family members Saturday afternoon and left a voicemail message saying they were in Tucson, Hawke said.

The family confirmed the Stegmeiers stayed at the Hampton Inn , 251 South Wilmot Rd. on Friday night.

Since leaving the hotel, no family or friends have been in contact with them, Hawke said.

Mrs. Stegmeier has been diagnosed with dementia, and Mr. Stegmeier has a worsening mental condition, possibly related to dementia as well, family told police.

Mr. Stegmeier was described as a white, 5-foot-10-inches tall, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with gray hair.

Mrs. Stegmeier was described as a white, 5-foot-4, approximately 115 pounds.

Police ask anyone with information to call 9-1-1.
