TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The deep freeze has caused hundreds of pipes to burst and Tucson Water officials say they've been busy all weekend responding to calls to help fix the problems.
Fernando Molina, with Tucson Water, had no solid numbers as of 4 p.m. Monday. But, he says they've been receiving fewer calls on Monday compared to the weekend. On Sunday night, Molina reported 414 freeze calls.
Tucson Water's dispatch center has been fielding calls all weekend. They beefed up their staff, having more people answering phones and scattered across the city ready to respond to these calls.
Some major problems are water coolers on the roof and swamp coolers.
"This is probably the longest cold weather snap we've had. Extremely cold temperatures in a while," said Molina. "The issues we've dealt with in February of 2011 was 2 or 3 days. We're going into 4 or 5 days now. This is definitely a much longer duration than we've experienced in the past."
