Inauguration Day weather

Posted: Updated:

At noon today President Barack Obama will be publicly sworn in to office. The weather will be mild with light winds, mostly cloudy skies, and a noon temperature of 44°. The temperatures are typical for the DC area in late January.

The weather today is about as good as it gets for a January inauguration. The warmest inauguration on record was in 1981 for President Ronald Reagan's first term in office. The temperature hit 55° at noon.

The coldest inauguration on record was just 4 years later for President Reagan's second term in office. At noon it was 7° with a wind chill factor taking the feels-like temperature down to -10° to -20°.  According to the National Weather Service, the ceremony was moved indoors and the parade was canceled.
