TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
This is a once in a lifetime experience for one group of students. A group of eighth graders from Altar Valley Middle School will get to see the inauguration in person.
Eighth graders from Altar Valley Middle School are in Washington D.C. for President Obama's second inaugural ceremony today. About 31 students from Ken Peterson's Social Studies class are there with about a dozen chaperones.
The students have been learning about the government and how it all works. Now they will get to see for themselves where it all happens.
The students worked hard to make this trip a reality. The trip to D.C. cost about $1400 per person. Through fundraisers and sponsorships Peterson's class raised over $60,000 and Senator John McCain provided the tickets to the inauguration.
The students are making many memories and of course taking many pictures.
