TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A memorial service will be held on Thursday to honor a K-9 that was killed in December.

K-9 Ivan was shot while helping offices with the arrest of an armed carjacking suspect who fled from police.

The memorial will take place at Memorial Plaza in front of the main police station on Stone Avenue at 4 p.m.

The Service Dog Unit will carry Ivan's remains onto the stage and the veterinarian that treated Ivan the night of the shooting will speak.

Tucson's Parks and Recreation Commission will discuss naming the Purple Heart Dog Park, on Rita Road, to "Ivan's Spot."

Tucson Police Department union members were out in Rita Ranch around Christmas time collecting signatures to rename the park after the fallen K-9.

The naming is on the agenda for the commission's meeting tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Armory Park senior center.
