ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now)-- The Oro Valley Police Department will continue their increased presence on Oracle Road indefinitely to try to decrease collisions.
OVPD motorcycle officers conducted 15 High Visibility Enforcement (HiVE) deployments between Sept. 18 and Dec. 27, 2012. During the deployments, there were a total of 528 traffic stops, 162 drivers who received citations for violations, 365 drivers who received warnings for violations, and 3 collisions occurred.
A comparison of data from 2011 and 2012 showed a decline in collisions at the Oracle and Magee intersection. The data also showed an increase in collisions at the Oracle and Suffolk intersection, where 90 percent of those were "rear-end" collisions and all were non-injury collisions with inattention as the most common cause.
OVPD will continually assess the program to measure its effectiveness and will publish dates in advance to inform motorists about additional police activity.
