TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Happening today, city leaders will talk about re-naming a dog park in honor of fallen Tucson Police K-9 officer, Ivan; who was killed in the line of duty last month.

A memorial service will be held for Ivan tomorrow at Memorial Plaza at 4 p.m.  He is considered a hero by many so it should be an emotional service.

Ivan, as many will remember, was killed on December 12, while assisting TPD officers with an arrest of an armed carjacking suspect who was on the run from police.

The memorial service will begin with the presentation of colors by the TPD Honor Guard and several people are expected to speak including the vet who treated Ivan the night he was shot.

Also being considered is naming the dog park at Purple Heart Park on Rita Road to Ivan's Spot.  Officers have been collecting signatures in an effort to get that done, it will be on the park commissions agenda for today's meeting at 3:30 p.m.
