Pima County Sheriff's Deputies are hoping to keep children safe while walking to school. For two weeks special enforcements were placed in school zones across Tucson.
Keeping children safe is the number one goal here. School zones are one of the busiest areas and one of the most common places for accidents to happen.
That is why PCSD placed special enforcement around 60 school zones across town for two weeks.
Deputies were out in the morning and the afternoon as kids went to and from school.
What they found was a lot of speeders. Deputies say they wrote over 450 speeding tickets during this deployment.
The number one excuse from drivers was that they didn't see the school sign posted; others simply missed the posted signs because they were in a hurry.
So deputies want to remind everyone to watch out for school zone signs and slow down to help keep kids and parents out in the crosswalks safe; remember as well that fines are doubled in school zones.
During these deployments deputies discover illegal activity including drug violations, weapons and other crimes.
PCSD says they will continue to monitor school zones with periodic deployments.
