Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly will be the grand marshals at this year's Tucson Rodeo Parade.
The announcement was made today at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds.
Giffords was born in Tucson and graduated from University High School and served as CEO of her families business, El Campo Tire Warehouses.
She was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2000 and to the Arizona Senate in 2002. She was re-elected in 2004, but resigned the following year to run for U.S. Congress.
In 2006, she became the third woman in Arizona history to be elected to Congress, representing District 8. She was re-elected in 2008 and 2010. She resigned in 2012 to focus on recovery from an assassination attempt on Jan. 8, 2011.
Kelly is a retired astronaut and U.S. Navy captain and aviator who flew combat missions during the Gulf War. He piloted the space shuttle in 2001 and 2006 and commanded shuttle missions in 2008 and 2011.
The parade features over 200 non-motorized floats.
