A portion of a major road on the Northwest side is washed away and now deputies have deemed it dangerous for drivers.
La Cholla is closed just north of Magee to Overton. Overnight rains washed out part of the roadway and it began to buckle. This is an area where construction crews have been working to build an overpass.
Pima County Sheriff's Deputies are worried someone may not see where the road breaks off and end up crashing their car into what has turned into a pond.
There are road closure signs at both ends of La Cholla. But, deputies have already been issuing several citations for drivers who try to go around the "road closed" signs.
"If you get caught you can certainly get cited for that but more importantly we just don't want anyone to get hurt falling off the edge of the roadway, destroying their car and drowning a pit of muddy water," said Pima County Sheriff's Deputy, Ted Hartenstein.
There is no estimate on when La Cholla will fully reopen.
