Happening today the city is gearing up for the big kickoff of the Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase.
Thousands are expected to come from across the world for the ‘one of a kind' showcase.
For the next two weeks several thousand people will be in Tucson to check out the 59th Annual Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase.
To mark the start of this year's gem shows, the city is hosting a kickoff event and news conference. Several gem show owners and vendors will be attending to show off some of their prized possessions.
Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and several city leaders will also be there.
The city will give a behind the scenes tour of the family owned and operated 22nd Street Mineral, Fossil and Gem show; showing off the world's largest turtle fossil and a display of a unique dinosaur.
Tomorrow gem shows open up for everyone across town. If planning on checking out some of the 43 shows, there is an app for that. Its called the 'Tucson Gem Shows' app and it has six selections on the top from locations to shows to dining in the area. At the very bottom is even shuttle and parking information.
The city kickoff will be at the Luis Gutierrez Bridge at 3 p.m.
