Asst. Principal put on leave for supporting gay marriage

EAST WALNUT HILLS, OH (FOX19) -

The assistant principle at an East Walnut Hills Catholic high school claims he is poised to lose his job for supporting gay marriage.

Mike Moroski, the assistant principal at Purcell Marian High School, says that he was placed on leave with a pending termination for expressing support of gay marriage on his personal web page.

Moroski says that the Archdiocese of Cincinnati gave him an ultimatum- resign, or keep his job at Purcell Marian until June by signing a document recanting statements made on his personal blog.

The blog post, entitled "Choosing Your Battles", was written on January 27.

"I unabashedly believe that gay people SHOULD be allow to marry," wrote Moroski in his blog. "Ethically, morally and legally I believe this."

Employees of the Catholic schools sign a document stating that they will act in conformity with Catholic Church doctrine.

Moroski's opinion on the issue stands in contrast with that of the Archdiocese.

"After twelve years of working with teenagers whose respect I have earned, I simply can't teach them the wrong lesson now and deny my convictions," Moroski wrote in a media release. "I would not be able to look them in the eye. I have tried to instill a sense of faith and fortitude in all of them regarding issues of justice for my entire adult life. I did not turn down the Archdiocese's terms in spite of my faith. I turned them down because of my faith.

Dan Adriacco, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, says neither he nor the Archdiocese can comment on the issue as it is a personal matter.

Moroski is expected to make a public statement on Monday.
