The snow started to fall more heavily in Bisbee around nine o'clock Monday night. Arizona Department of Transportation snow plows began to run the course of State Route 80 out of Bisbee toward Benson. Snow had been falling at a variety of rates across Cochise County during the day.
"(I'm) a little nervous, because we weren't expecting to hit any snow until maybe later on tonight or in Sierra Vista. We're a little nervous because we haven't been snow-driving in 14 years. We live in the desert," said Janice Ward, as she stopped in Benson on her way to Sierra Vista from Oro Valley.
The rain turned to snow along I-10 into Benson and gave Ward a blurry, wet drive on her way to Sierra Vista. The snow continued to fall on that drive and brought some winter driving conditions to Sierra Vista residents.
"(I) have to go to Tucson tomorrow, so I just hope it lets up tonight," said Kay Darnall, who lives near Sierra Vista.
The snow continued to fall lightly on the drive to Bisbee. For some residents, it was a welcome change, especially if they had no plans for long distance travel.
"It was heavier when I came here. It was snowing hard, and hopefully we'll get a few inches," said Marc Luers, who lives in Bisbee and had spent part of the evening in the saloon at the Copper Queen Hotel.
