SEA ISLAND, Ga. -- Brandt Snedeker, winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and current FedExCup leader, has withdrawn from the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship due to sore ribs.
Snedeker, who has played five of the first six weeks on the PGA TOUR schedule, started feeling soreness in his left rib cage at the Humana Challenge, where he received treatment from personal trainer Randy Myers out of Sea Island, Ga. He was fine during both the Farmers Insurance Open and the Waste Management Phoenix Open, finishing second at both events. The soreness reoccurred last Thursday at Pebble Beach.
The 2012 FedExCup champion is currently on vacation with his family in Maui, Hawaii and will return to Nashville later this week. Snedeker is scheduled to see his personal doctor, Dr. James Elrod, who has already suggested immediate rest and does not perceive this as a long-term issue.
Snedeker was not scheduled to play at The Honda Classic and hopes to return for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Doral.
"I certainly will miss competing in the Accenture Match Play Championship, and I really do appreciate what Accenture does to make that one of the premier events on our schedule," said Snedeker.
