The Earth is in constant flux. These changes can move land surfaces up and down, sometimes with drastic results. Land subsidence (sinking) can increase flood dangers. All changes in elevation, both up and down, can impact stability of structures.
The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) launched a new program called 'Height Modernization' to update data on Earth's elevations. Information gathered can help governments adjust to the impacts of sinking and rising land to homes, businesses, and critical structures in their areas.
