Increased safety for cyclists, pedestrians on the road

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Cyclists are a big part of the community here in Tucson and a new bill wants to protect them.

Tucsonans share the road with cyclists all the time, a new bill wants to keep them and pedestrians safe from harassment on the road.

The bill would make it a misdemeanor to yell, throw or hit a cyclist or pedestrian.  The wording of the bill is up for question though.

The bill states that a person commits harassment if the cyclist or pedestrian falls.  Cyclist groups say the fear that they experience when they are harassed should be enough, even if they don't fall.

The law is making its way through the state legislature.
