For the 3rd year in a row, the University of Arizona hosted the Latino Health Promotion Summit. The event brings health professionals from around the state to the hospital. Many of which work in rural, tribal and urban undeserved medical areas.

The topic of discussion at this summit, health equity. The focus, the challenges providers will face with the Affordable Care Act. The ACA will provide health insurance to over 32 million Americans. This could mean more patients visiting the health providers than normal.

Doctor Elena Rios is the keynote speaker and president of the National Hispanic Medical Association. This is her third time speaking at the summit. The goal of the NHMA is to be the national leader to improve the health of the Hispanic population. Rios said, "These are doctors and nurses that are in our minority communities, they need to learn more about what's changing and how they can get some grants."

The last two years of the summit, the topics were disease and obesity in the Latino community.
