FRANKLIN COUNTY, IN (FOX19) -
A former teacher and coach is behind bars accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Authorities say James Spivey of Brookville, 29, was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation which began on February 6th.

Indiana State Police received information alleging Spivey, a teacher and basketball coach at Connersville High School, was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student and basketball player.

Investigators believe Spivey and the student began a relationship shortly after the start of the basketball season, which later became a sexual relationship at Spivey's home.

He resigned from his position as a teacher and coach shortly after the start of the investigation.

Spivey was charged with child seduction, a felony. He is currently being held in the Franklin County Detention Center.
