TUCSON, AZ (TNN) – While the City of Tucson does not consider Tuesday night's temps as a freeze threat for bridges, they will be watching more closely as the week progresses.
With rain or snow on the way, Tucson Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Graham said that they don't want to spray magnesium chloride Tuesday because it will wash off the bridges.
They'll be watching closely Wednesday night and into Thursday morning to see if bridges freeze. If so, they could spray the bridges to melt the ice. Or, if they're worried that the chemical will make the bridges more slippery they'll use sand as a last resort.
But they're looking ahead to Wednesday into Thursday or Thursday into Friday to be the time when they make that move. If they move too soon, all that spraying could go to waste.
