Free soccer game says 'thank you' to fans

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Add a free soccer game to Friday night's events.  1,200 people will get to see Seattle Sounders FC take on Veracruz at Kino North Field 5 tonight at 7.

The free match is a "thank you" from FC Tucson to the community for its support of the professional soccer matches that it has brought to Pima County.

Soccer has been considered a viable replacement to Major League Baseball's Spring Training games after the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks pulled out of Tucson.

Soccer could have the promise to keep tourism money rolling into the Old Pueblo.  Tourism from Mexico has an estimated more than $1 billion impact on Pima County.

Visitors from Mexico are expected to keep coming here to see their teams and others play at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium.

All the free tickets have been distributed.

JD Wallace will show the turnout, hear from the fans, and look at the future of soccer in Pima County on Fox 11 Tucson Now at 9 and KOLD News 13 Live at 10. You can follow him on Twitter at @JDWallaceKOLD.
