FLORENCE, AZ - Pinal County supervisors are defending County Manager Fritz Behring in response to the county sheriff's claim that Behring interfered with the audit of a money-losing contract to hold immigration detainees at the jail.
Sheriff Paul Babeu told Republican precinct captains in a meeting last week that Behring pressured staff members to manipulate financial data in a draft report of an audit. Specifically, Babeu alleged that auditors omitted nearly $2million in annual jail revenues from the report at Behring's direction.
