Matt Kuchar won the WGC-Accenture Match Play championship Sunday with a victory over defending champion Hunter Mahan in the final.
Windy conditions challenged the golfers at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, but Kuchar finished off Mahan with a strong approach shot after both hit into the bunker on the par-4 17th hole.
Kuchar, 34, beat Jason Day 4 and 3 Sunday morning in the semifinals to reach the championship match.
Mahan defeated Ian Poulter 4 and 3 in the semifinals. He was trying to become only the second golfer, since Tiger Woods in 2003 and 2004, to win back-to-back Match Play championships.
Kuchar was the PGA Tour's money leader in 2010. The St. Simons Island, Ga., resident won the 2012 Tour Championship.
Day won the consolation over Poulter, 1 up. Day parred the 18th hole to avoid sudden-death play.
