A controlled burn is scheduled for parts of the Catalina Mountains today.
The Santa Catalina Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest will burn wood piles near some campgrounds and recreation areas at the top of the Catalina Mountains.
Smoke may be visible from Tucson and surrounding communities.
The wood piles were created from the thinning of small trees and brush in areas surrounding the campgrounds.
This was done to reduce the threat of wildfires, but also to improve forest health and environmental conditions for wildlife.
Today's cool temperatures, high relative humidity, and snowpack are favorable for burning.
