UA hosts annual 'Love Your Body Week'

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

This week is "Love Your Body Week" at the University of Arizona.

The University says it is a week dedicated to "empowering UA students to love their own bodies just the way they are and not buy into the pressure of having to conform to societal ideals to feel beautiful, loved and accepted."

The University has been hosting the event for years.

Tonight, Dr. Jean Kilbourne, an internationally recognized author and award-winning filmmaker will speak about "The Naked Truth: Advertising's Image of Women."

The event is free and open to both the campus community and the community at large. It begins tonight at 6 p.m. inside the Memorial Student Union's South Ballroom on the third floor.

According to the National Eating DIsorders Association website, 35 to 57 percent of adolescent girls engage in some form of crash dieting, fasting, self-induced vomiting, diet pills, or laxatives.
