TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Happening today, a chance for residents to weigh in on a $71 million project to widen one of the main roads here in Tucson; Broadway is the gateway to downtown.
That is why the RTA wants to make it bigger, wider and safer.
The plan is to expand Broadway to six lanes with two bus lanes between Euclid and Country Club.
Officials want to add bike boulevards and ensure signals at crosswalks. It's a voter approved project but the outline has caused some concern.
To widen Broadway a chunk of businesses in the area would be wiped out, that is why the Citizen's Task Force was created to hear from the community, before any official design is drawn up.
They are inviting people to come out tonight to learn, ask and get involved. The task force is made up of reps from neighborhoods and businesses in the area. The project team will also be on hand. They have held open houses since June.
Tonight citizens can come voice their opinions and concerns at the Sabbar Shrine Hall, off Broadway and Tucson Boulevard, starting at 6 p.m.
