ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Authorities have confirmed the death of 22-year-old Joshua Switalski following a shooting that occurred Thursday night in Oro Valley.

Witnesses reported an altercation between two vehicles traveling northbound on North Oracle Road around 8 p.m. Thursday.

The confrontation involved a male driver in a pickup and Switalski in a sedan.  It's unclear what started the fight between the two drivers, police say.

Each driver had a passenger in their vehicle.

As each vehicle proceeded northbound on Oracle, police say one of the occupants in the pickup brandished a firearm and started shooting at the sedan.

Upon being mortally wounded, Switalski's car came to a stop in the emergency lane of Oracle  near the intersection of North First Avenue.  No other injuries were reported.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene, police say, but was located by Oro Valley police as it approached East Hawser Street.

Officers detained two male occupants.

Detectives later determined that the driver, 21-year-old David Arnoldo Mota is believed to have shot at the victim's vehicle.

Mota was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail where he faces one count of first degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The case remains under investigation.

Detectives are requesting the assistance of the anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation or the shooting itself.
