After a nearly 12 year long search, authorities have arrested a wanted sex offender from Arizona.
The U.S. Marshal's Service tells Tucson News Now, Stephen Scott Barnes, 49, was taken into custody Friday in Phoenix.
Barnes was wanted since 2002 by police in Chandler for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. He was also wanted by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office for violating the conditions of his probation.
Authorities say Barnes was released from prison in 1997, after he was convicted and sentenced to five years for sexual conduct with a minor. After Barnes' release and failure to register as a sex offender here in Arizona, he fled the country.
Barnes was detained by police in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, Mexico last Tuesday, and was deported. He arrested by Deputy U.S. Marshals when he arrived in the United States.
