Tucson man was motorcyclist killed on Sonoita Highway

SONOITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A 68-year-old motorcyclist from Tucson was killed Saturday afternoon on the Sonoita Highway, Arizona State Route 83.

The man was identified as Arthur Francis Roper, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The accident happened around 3:25 p.m. when a pickup truck was turning left and was hit by the motorcyclist, the DPS said. 

The truck was turning onto Gardner Canyon Road from the northbound lane, the DPS said, and crossed into the southbound lane.

The motorcycle was attempting to overtake the pickup when it hit the left side of the truck.

The pickup's driver, a 70 year-old woman, was not injured.

The incident, which happened about 20 miles south of Interstate 10 and north of Sonoita, affected traffic in both directions for more the four hours.
