TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Seventeen inmates were taken to local hospitals Sunday after a fight at the Arizona State Prison Complex, a deputy warden said.
The fight happened at around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, at the Whetstone Unit of the prison at 10,000 South Wilmot Rd., said Daniella Stemple, deputy warden of the unit.
The fight involved approximately 300 Caucasian and Mexican-American inmates and approximately 100 African-American inmates, Department of Corrections Spokesman Bill Lamoreaux told Tucson News Now.
All of the injuries were non-life threatening.
Two employees suffered minor injuries.
Additional inmates were assessed and treated on-site.
Visitations at the prison have been canceled indefinitely as the investigation continues.
