TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
17 inmates were transported to a local hospital for
treatment after a fight that broke out yesterday at the Arizona State Prison
Complex (ASPC)-Tucson, Whetstone
Unit. 15 of the inmates have since been
treated and brought back to Whetstone, while two remain in the hospital.
Whetstone still remains on lockdown, while the fight is being
investigated. The remaining units in the
complex are returning to normal activities.
The original fight broke out Sunday morning around 9:45
a.m.
According to authorities staff at the complex were able to gain control
quickly, stopping the fight. There
were no other units at the complex involved in the fight, say prison
authorities.
Authorities at the prison are saying
the initial fight involved approximately 300 Caucasian and Mexican-American
inmates and approximately 100 African-American inmates. As a result of
this fight, 80 of the inmates involved have been moved to other institutions.
