TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

17 inmates were transported to a local hospital for treatment after a fight that broke out yesterday at the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC)-Tucson, Whetstone Unit.  15 of the inmates have since been treated and brought back to Whetstone, while two remain in the hospital.

Whetstone still remains on lockdown, while the fight is being investigated.  The remaining units in the complex are returning to normal activities.

The original fight broke out Sunday morning around 9:45 a.m.  According to authorities staff at the complex were able to gain control quickly, stopping the fight.   There were no other units at the complex involved in the fight, say prison authorities.

Authorities at the prison are saying the initial fight involved approximately 300 Caucasian and Mexican-American inmates and approximately 100 African-American inmates.  As a result of this fight, 80 of the inmates involved have been moved to other institutions.
