"Pacino" the otter was found unconsious and died Sunday at the Reid Park Zoo.
The male African Spot-Necked Otter was rushed him to the zoo's health center for care, but he did not respond to treatment, the zoo said Monday in a post on its Facebook page.
"Our veterinary and pathologist team conducted a preliminary necropsy, which revealed a tumor on his adrenal gland as well as some physical changes to his heart muscle," the Facebook post said.
"However, final test results are needed to determine how these findings might have contributed to his death. Although he was an older animal, he showed no symptoms of chronic health conditions."
The Zoo said "Pacino" was approximately 14 and had lived in Tucson since 2001.
