Repair work from accident keeps Mission Road closed

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

An early morning accident closes down Mission Road for several hours.

According to Tucson Police it was a single vehicle accident, a woman hit a power pole near on Mission Road between Via Ingresso and Ohio.  Mission Road is closed both northbound and southbound at this time. 

There were no other utilities involved in the accident, no water or telephone lines.  Tucson Electric Power crews are on site replacing the downed power pole, and TEP officials say the repair could keep the road closed till as late as noon today.

Drivers who use Mission Road are encouraged to use either I-19 or 12th Avenue, as well as Kinney Road or Camino de Oeste as alternates.  

Traffic for Mary Belle McCorkle School, located at 4455 S. Mission Road will not be affected by the road closure, according to TPD officials. 

Tucson Police are saying alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but speed may have been.   An investigation is still being conducted.  The driver, a woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
