TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Jim Crawford made a name for himself as one of the most successful coaches in Southern Arizona.  At 83, he's been away from the game for seven years but his legend lives on.

This week, the longtime St. David coach is back in the headlines after The Arizona Republic listed the most successful high school coaches in Arizona history.

Crawford and his 19 state titles are listed at No. 8 on the list.  He captured 15 crowns in baseball and four in football.  Makes me proud to call him my stepfather.

Here's the caption from The Republic article:  Coached St. David to 1A state baseball titles in 2002, 2001, 2000, 1993, 1991, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1984, 1980, 1967, 1966 and 1965. Also led school to runner-up baseball finishes in 1978, 1972 and 1968. Also led St. David to 1A football titles in 1979, 1977, 1972 and 1960 and guided team to runner-up football finishes in 1966. 1960 and 1972 squads finished the season undefeated.
