If you were driving along Interstate 19 near Green Valley on Friday night, you might have seen a lot of smoke. That was a pecan field on fire.
The blaze happened at Green Valley Pecan Company workers there actually extinguished the fire themselves using tractors to spread the pecans.
The fire was not set intentionally and Green Valley Firefighters believe remnants of an old burn could've sparked the one on Friday.
"What happens is heat from decomposition that these are large piles that probably got wet over the last couple of weeks with different storms on and off," said Joey Kosiorowski with Green Valley Fire. "They'll produce heat and continue to burn."
The fire happened in an isolated field. No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.
