TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The Arizona Department of Transportation says I-10 between Tucson and Benson reopened in both directions at approximately 7:00 this morning, after crews removed the old Pantano Union Pacific Railroad bridge just west of the Marsh Station traffic interchange.
The 21-mile segment of I-10 was closed between state routes 83 and 90 beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday, as ADOT crews removed the bridge. During the overnight work, motorists had to take a 67-mile detour through Sonoita.
ADOT says the old bridge was too low for many of today's taller trucks, which currently must take a 67-mile detour along state routes 83, 82 and 90. By removing the old bridge, ADOT says most commercial trucks will now be able to stay on I-10 through this segment of the interstate.
