Avondale Library celebrates 100 years

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) -

The Avondale Branch Library celebrated 100 years of service in its current location on Saturday.

Members of the community gathered at the library on Saturday for a brief ceremony. Library Board President William J. Moran spoke about a major project that the library plans to unveil that includes a significant investment in the branch.

Library service in Avondale began in 1899 in an old drug store. The drug store served as a delivery station for books and materials form the downtown library.

The current location opened on March 1, 1913 with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie. Land was donated by the Avondale community with construction costing only $45,292.

Through its 100 years of service, the branch has provided the community with a wide variety of recourses and programs for the community.
