TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
As the temperatures heat
up, fire fighters are already getting prepared for what could be a busy year
fighting wildland fires.
The entire Rural/Metro
Fire Department is currently in what they call ‘red card' training, which is
training to fight wildland fires.
A cold winter could make
for a long summer of battling fires, with all the nights spent below the
freezing mark that killed off a lot of vegetation, which will soon be turning
into dry fuel for fires.
Rural/Metro also wants to
remind people to start thinking about clearing away brush and potential fuel
around their homes.
They recommend a 30 foot
defensible space around a home and they say homeowners should have this done by
the end of the month, which is when Rural/Metro says the fire season could
start to pick up. Its also a good time
to get yard work done, before it gets too hot outside.
