TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
A
national medical group has issued a warning about the growth of ADHD
prescription abuse.
According
to the American Academy of Neurology, ADHD medication is being used by kids who
aren't prescribed to it, but take the pills to stay focused in school.
Doctors
say taking ADHD medication repeatedly and when not needed is dangerous while
students' brains are still developing, and they are putting themselves at risk
of potential addiction, anxiety, depression or insomnia.
The
medical group says the best alternative is to maintain a good diet and exercise
regimen and to get enough sleep.
