PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona House hearing on Gov. Jan Brewer's proposal to expand the state's Medicaid program will be conducted by a committee whose chairman opposes the proposal.
The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/Wfb0tI ) reports that House Speaker Andy Tobin decided to have the hearing held by the House Appropriations Committee.
Rep. John Kavanagh of Fountain Hills is chairman of that committee.
Republican Rep. Heather Clark of Cave Creek had planned to have her House Health Committee conduct the hearing. She supports the proposal.
The planned hearing won't result in formal action on the proposal, but it will provide the first public debate at the Legislature regarding the issue.
