Have you filled our your 2012 tax return? What about 2009?
The Internal Revenue Service says it owes more than $917 million to taxpayers across the country who haven't filled out a return for 2009. However, you'll need to get that 2009 return in by April 15 to claim your refund.
The IRS is looking for 24,800 Arizonans who have a potential $20,742,000 worth of refunds. IRS managers say many people didn't file because they had too little income to require filing a tax return, even though they had taxes withheld from their wages or made quarterly estimated payments. In those cases, most taxpayers have a three-year window of opportunity for claiming a refund.
If the 2009 refund money isn't claimed, it goes into the U.S. Treasury.
