PHOENIX (Tucson News Now) -

Governor Jan Brewer has chosen a sophomore from the University of Arizona to be the 2013 Arizona Board of Regents Student Regent.

Valerie Hanna is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a focus on Public Policy and Law. She is a senator with the Associated Students of the University of Arizona.  She has also been an Arizona Ambassador at UA for the past year, in which she leads campus tours and advocates on behalf of the University to prospective students.

"Valerie brings to the Arizona Board of Regents a fresh, energetic voice and a clear interest in this state's higher education issues," said Governor Brewer in a press release. "Through her strong academic record and student leadership, she has proven her commitment to improving the higher education experience for her fellow Arizona students."

Hanna's two-year term with the Arizona Board of Regents will begin July 1, 2013, pending confirmation by the Arizona State Senate.  She replaces outgoing Student Regent Tyler Bowyer, whose term is expiring.
