A 15-year-old student at Barberton High School charged after bringing knives to school.
Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, staff members were notified that a student was in possession of a knife while at school. The Barberton High School Resource Officer began an investigation and discovered that a 15-year-old student had brought two knives to school in his backpack.
The 15-year-old said he had a plan to take over and do harm at the school at some point in the future. Further investigation revealed three other students, who had knowledge of the knives, had agreed to be part of his plan.
There was no imminent threat and at no time were any students, staff or faculty threatened or in danger.
After consultation with the Barberton Prosecutor's office, the 15-year-old student was charged with illegal conveyance of a weapon on school property, inciting to violence, aggravated riot and inducing panic.
Three other students, ages 13, 16 and 18, were charged with failure to report a crime, complicity to inciting violence and aggravated riot.
The juveniles were taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center and the adult student was booked into the Summit County Jail.
